Watch: Tesla driver decides to skip traffic and nearly causes head-on collision

Redditor /u/you-can-call-me-alki shared unbelievable dashcam footage earlier this week showed a Tesla driver deciding to overtake traffic by popping out of his lane into oncoming traffic on a blind corner, no less, narrowly avoiding a serious head on collision.

The near-collision occurred near the intersection of Highland Park Way SW and West Marginal Way SW in West Seattle, Washington.

The video begins with OP’s dashcam showing him driving northbound on Highland Park Way SW, keeping a safe distance from a red GMC SUV. About 200 meters past the intersection, we see the red GMC SUV quickly dart right out of the way.

Why? A Tesla Model 3 driver felt they could get to the left turn lane faster by driving on the wrong side of the road, right into oncoming traffic. And, as previously stated, on a blind corner. It’s a move this Tesla driver has probably done a few times before with success, but this time was different.

The opposing lanes of traffic are clearly delineated by double-solid lines. Fortunately, there was no collision, and because OP was following at a safe distance, he had plenty of time to react.

Driving on the wrong side of the road is a violation of RCW 46.61.150 and is punishable by a $288 fine. With all of the expenses, that fine will almost certainly double. However, the possibility of a collision resulting in serious injury or worse is far worse than any fine.

If you’re in the habit of making unnecessarily risky moves on the road to save, at best, a minute’s time, consider this your warning to stop.
